+ Read MoreThe Institute of Philosophic Studies, which is the Ph.D. granting division of the University, holds a colloquium at the beginning of each semester that represents the culmination of the IPS Core Course given in the preceding semester. The IPS Colloquia are modeled after the academic conferences held elsewhere that graduate students will be attending as part of their careers as teachers. Three panels of three papers each are presented over the course of one afternoon by nine of the students who took the core course in the preceding semester. The papers are followed by a reception and dinner, and conversation continues into the evening, as the faculty and students discuss the content of the afternoon's sessions and take advantage of the opportunity to meet and talk outside of the ordinary environs of classrooms and faculty offices.
