Where is the Cowan-Blakley Memorial Library?

The library is located in the Braniff and Blakley Buildings (see campus map). The entrance can be found in the Braniff Foyer. Both buildings are located on the mall, north of the Tower on campus. The two buildings are connected by an indoor walkway.

What are the library's hours?

Library hours are posted on the Cowan-Blakley Library home page. Please check there for current library hours, as library hours vary according to the academic calendar.

How do I get a student ID?

After registering through Admissions at UD, get your current ID card from Campus Security and bring it to the Circulation/Check Out Desk to activate it for library use.

Where are the restrooms?

There is a ladies' room and a men's room on the lower level. There is also a men's room on the second floor and a ladies' room on the third floor.

Where are the reserves?

Print materials reserved by professors for the use of their students are located behind the Circulation Desk.  Inquire at Circulation Desk stating that you need material reserved under the professor's name and give the title of the book or the subject of the material. Other reserve materials are online.

How do I obtain materials that are not in the Cowan-Blakley Memorial Library?

Books and articles that are not available in this library may be obtained by using the Cowan-Blakley Memorial Library's Interlibrary Loan service, Tipasa, as a current student, faculty, staff member, adjunct, or retireeYou will need to know your UD network username and password to utilize the Tipasa service. If materials are needed immediately, the reference librarian can assist you in identifying other local libraries that have the relevant book or journal.  Another option is to go to the database WorldCat to see if a local library has the publication.  The TexShare Card Program may be helpful when materials are needed from other libraries. Please refer to the two following FAQs for more detailed information on Tipasa and the TexShare Card Program. Undergraduates can also open a College Card with the Irving Public Library.

How do I use TIPASA, the  InterLibrary Loan service?

You may borrow books via Interlibrary Loan through the Tipasa system as a current student, faculty, staff member, adjunct, or retiree. You will need to know your UD network username and password to utilize this service.

What is the TexShare Card Program?

The TexShare Card Program allows registered users of participating TexShare libraries to have direct access to library materials not available at their local library. The Cowan-Blakley Memorial Library is a member of TexShare and provides TexShare cards to graduate students and faculty members. Undergraduates and others wishing to obtain a TexShare card should contact the library in Texas where they are registered card holders. 

How do I get a password for the databases?

Subscribed databases, e-books, and e-journals require a University Network Account (Student Network Account) for use in the university's computer centers, for remote access, or for off-campus access.

Are there computers available for use in the library?

There are seven computers located near the Reference Help Desk, on the first floor of the Library. 

There are 20 computers available in the Blakley Research and Information Center (BRIC).  These computers are limited to current students, faculty, and staff of the University of Dallas.  A network account is required for accessing the computers in the BRIC.

How can I print materials from the computers?

All of the computers located near the Reference Help Desk on the first floor of the Library are connected to a printer at the Circulation Desk. Printed copies are 10 cents per page (no cards), and payable at the Circulation Desk.  When printing from the Blakley Research and Information Center (BRIC) make sure the printer selection is set at Front Desk.

Where are the University Archives?

The University Archive Office, headed by Susannah Bingham-Buck, is located separately from the Cowan-Blakley Memorial Library, in an office in the back of the Blakley Building, facing the Haggerty Arts Village.
